What to Record in a Calisthenics Training Log

Keep a useful record of variations, completed sets, repetitions, effort, and schedule changes without turning every session into data entry.

A useful training log helps you decide what to do next. You do not need a complicated dashboard to capture the details that explain why a movement felt easier or harder than last time.

Record the movement precisely

Include the exercise variation and enough setup detail to repeat it. For incline push-ups, the support height matters; for bands, the band and stretch setup matter. Record actual sets and repetitions, or hold duration when shown. The planner supplies movement labels and input fields, but you should still remember any meaningful setup change when comparing two sessions.

Keep completion separate

A target is a plan; a completed log is a record. Mark completion deliberately and use an effort rating consistently. The app looks at completed movement logs when making its simple progression suggestion, so leaving a default number untouched should not be treated as evidence that you performed it. A missed day can remain visible without inventing a catch-up achievement.

Choose a storage method

Browser saving is quick for a single device. Download JSON when you want an editable backup or to move the project manually. A CSV export describes the planned schedule; it is not a substitute for the full project with logs. If buying a notebook or app, prioritize easy entry, enough space for setup details, and access to your records later. Test whether the method is usable during a real session before committing.

YOUR NEXT SMALL STEP

After your next session, save actual work and export a JSON backup before changing the plan.

Build my plan

Our guides offer general planning advice. These adult general-fitness templates organize movements and logs. They are not individually coached or medically reviewed programs. Choose variations you can control, use suitable stable equipment, and stop a movement that causes pain. Progression suggestions depend on your recorded performance; they do not guarantee a result. We do not claim hands-on tests of products mentioned in buying guides.
